So Many Possibilities: the Apple iPod Nano
AUTHOR: Kevin Bailey
Apple Computers launched the first iPod in 2001. Now, almost five years later, the company has continued to dominate the mp3 player market with various iterations of the original impressive iPod.
One of the most popular iPods is the iPod nano, which debuted in 2005. It replaced the iPod mini, which had a rather short life but a large following. The iPod nano measures a mere 3.5 x 1.6 and is available in three models, each with a different price: the 1GB at $149, 2GB for $199, and an impressive 4GB available for $249. You can think of it as shrunk-down version of the iPod. While not as small as the diminutive iPod shuffle, it still is of such a small design that you can hardly take in all it can do.
The iPod nano is available in either white or black. Either way, it features a sleek, well-designed case. It is as thin as a pencil and weighs only 1.5 ounces, which means it can hang around your neck and you’ll barely know it’s there, or it can fit into your pocket – the smaller the better.
You can view the cover of the album of the song you’re listening to – and the beautiful, clear, crisp LCD screen display, measuring 1.5 inches, makes this very appealing. Depending on which model of iPod nano you choose, you can store up to 1000 songs along with the full-color album art. With 14 hours of battery life, you can listen to almost three days worth of music without missing a beat.
Not only music is available to you through the iPod nano, you can also listen to a huge selection of podcasts. Even audiobooks are available for your listening pleasure, which means you can choose entertainment or education, and not waste a single minute. This is great for all those little increments of time when you find yourself waiting unexpectedly for who knows how long. The iPod nano can turn this typically unproductive time into an enriching experience. Catch up on the latest tunes, feature stories, explore subjects you want to know more about … you can learn a new language, or learn about a faraway place you want to travel to on your next vacation; it’s all there, resident on your tiny iPod nano.
Once you begin to explore the range of media now available to you, you’ll begin to value the iPod nano as so much more than just a means to hear a few songs while you’re doing something mindless. Educators are discovering the the iPod nano can be a great tool in the classroom. College professors are experimenting with ways to use iPods too. Business people too are finding ways to incorporate iPod functionality into their business lives. The possibilities are endless.
